A fresh academic article by an old grad school friend studies the FIRE worker movement (Financial Independence, Retire Early) as a means of enacting a new concept of ideal work — one far less defining and dominating over life than Americans typically conceive. As a Portland transplant (the city where young people used to go to retire) I love to see it.
