How much do you want to know about your friends? Chats about weather seem superficial (unless it’s two weather nerds needing out), but I’ve been scared off by the other extreme: a seemingly fun dog park acquaintance who repeatedly detailed her domestic violence history, how she hoped her ex would die, how his friend murdered her best friend five years ago, and whose favorite topic after dogs was genocide. Friendship needs both levity and depth, perhaps in equal measure.
