I’ve been thinking a lot about the Dunning Kruger Effect, which I learned about in psych classes but became a popular topic during Trump’s first presidency: people tend to overestimate their skill level in general, but lowest-skilled folks overestimate their ability most egregiously. I did not remember that it originated from a study of 65 Cornell University students who were asked to estimate their ability to rate comedians’ jokes in line with a general public perception of wit.
