As a founder of an app for sharing links, I'm not thrilled about proposals for taxing them. The unintended consequences of a Canadian law that drove Facebook out of the news biz: "A few outlets have taken a rather desperate measure: paying Meta to feature their reporting. Though Meta has blocked the pages of news outlets from the view of Canadians, on the back end, publishers can still get in, enter their credit card information, and blast paid posts into the feeds of targeted audiences."
