The fact that Evangelical Churches have been cauldrons of rape culture for decades probably should have tipped us off that Evangelicals would cheerfully elect a rapist. The good news is that the US is secularizing. The bad news is that even as Evangelicals become less numerous, their political power is growing due to the way rural areas are represented. So they’re going to keep violently imposing ideas that don’t stand up to the slightest scrutiny and are very clearly bad onto everyone else.

Evangelical Christians are excited about electing a rapist. Today I want to talk about two ideas that were (and I assume still are) central to Southern Baptist ideology around sex and gender when I was growing up and how these ideas help explain the Evangelical church’s relationship to rape and rapists.
