The psychological element of "I don't have to plan my trip, I just show up at the stop/station" is incredibly underrated in mass transit. All the best systems I've ever used (London, Prague, Berlin, Boston, NYC, DC, parts of PDX) didn't require me to look up when the bus or train came. Remove that burden of worry around "what happens if I miss the next train" and you will get sustained ridership. All the better if that's the experience all day, not just for commuters.
